AGGER LINKED

Liverpool defender Daniel Agger was one of the names mentioned as possible transfer target for Barcelona in the summer. The Danish centre back is regarded as one of the finest in the world. He has been at Liverpool since January 2006, and it was thought that perhaps we would like a new challenge at this stage in his career.

The 28-year-old will also have a lot of opportunities to win trophies if he moves to Barcelona. However, the transfer rumours never materialised into serious business and Agger has been an important player for Liverpool this season.

He has now said that there was real interest from Barcelona, but the club were not prepared to sell him. Further, the player himself has said that he would not have left Liverpool because he wants to win trophies at Anfield.

During his time at the club, he has won the FA Cup and the League Cup. He would have had the opportunity to win major trophies like the Champions league and the Spanish league if he had joined Barcelona. Liverpool, though, have made a great start to the current Premier league campaign, and if you like having a bet on football at william hill, backing Liverpool might be the way to do it!

They are joint top of the table with Arsenal. Even though it would take a lot of consistency to maintain this position throughout the season, Liverpool do seem to have the players this time around.

“In January, I’ll have been at Liverpool for eight years. If you count how many central defenders who have gone through the system during the period, you will need to count it on more than one hand. That’s a lot, and I’m standing there still. I think that’s a reason [I’m still at the club]. I know, that is! I do not know [if I’ll leave Liverpool]. Right now I have two and a half years left on my contract, and I intend to fulfil my contract, “said Agger.
