Transfer speculation is better than any of the crap the yanks are filling the papers with.

My guess on the secret player is Henry. :thumb:

i hope it's not him.

So, arguably the greatest striker in the premierships history goes abroad to try a new path, is played out of position horribly, (going back to his Juve days), and you wouldnt have him back in his bread and butter league, upfront with Torres?

:deadlol: :deadlol: :deadlol: :deadlol: :deadlol:

Nevermind the psychiatrist, just give him a gun.

Don't bother taking into account that Henry is 30 and has a degenerative knee injury that means he can never be fully fit again ...

Being 30 has nothing to do with it mate.

As for the knee injury, nothing is certain on that front just yet, no one knows the full facts.

I'd still have Henry, too right.

If we are going to spend 12 Million on a Villa player then why spend it on Barry when we could get Young for a couple more Million.

I was thinking that as well, however villa would be very reluctant to sell. And i believe our problem isn't that our holding mid fielders aren't scoring goals, 'cuz' lets face it thats not their job. Its that we don't have scoring wingers/ any wingers at all.

Bingo. People say we don't get enough goals from the middle of the park, but that's b*llocks ... Manchester United's central midfield options have all of 6 league goals between them this season: and they've come from mostly from Hargreaves and Fletcher, ffs.

What we've lacked for years is a wide player who scores regularly. Ronaldo now, Giggs and Pires in the past are/were so crucial in their teams' success. Kewell should have been that for us, Luis Garcia was when we could fit him into the team. Babel should become that (in fact he should become a terrific striker).

What we need is one more reliable goalscorer. Manchester United have three key goalscorers in Ronaldo, Tevez and Rooney; Arsenal have only Adebayor really, due to Van Persie/Eduardo's injuries, hence have struggled this year; Chelsea only have Drogba and Lampard and counter-balance that somewhat with their defence (a bit like we do, except our goalscorers have more goals and the defence is slightly more stingy).

If Babel adds himself alongside Torres and Gerrard next season, that would be superb; if we get a guy on the right flank who'll also score regularly, that'll be even better.

Don't try and say his age isn't important, it's always a factor in some way or another.

And his injury is well beyond the realms of mere speculation, mate. Just have to watch him with the ball for Barca to see he lacks the zip he used to have.

And for the record I am not saying I wouldn't take Henry -- just saying one should consider all the circumstances. That includes the aforementioned issues and the fact he would be living in London regardless of where he played in England, so he could see his daughter as often as possible.

Look like he could join Chelsea after all.

But I would hope Rafa actually go out and sign another world class striker to partner Torres and have gerrard playing behind the 2 strikers. In all honesty, i would like Rafa to sign Berbetov(I know, i know, long shot).

That would require a significant re-jigging of the midfield. We'd need another central player in addition to Masche and Xabi ... or else play 3/5 at the back ... besides which, we have a very good young striker in Babel already ...

Bah!!! I wont put so much hope on Babel, to be honest. He is STILL very raw and STILL not able to come to term with the physical side of the english game. The lad is suffering big time now. The only way to effectively use him would be subsitution after 70mins of play. Everytime he start a game, he will just be the invisible man until he got sub out.

A bit disappointing for a 11 mil pound signing to be honest. Another few more game will signal the end of this season, Babel still look the same player when he first join. Compare to Torres, he adapt and change his style a play a bit to deal with the physical game of EPL. Don't forgot, Torres only 1 year older than Babel.

Rafa Benitez says one summer signing has already been completed
Apr 21 2008

RAFA BENITEZ has confirmed that he has started Liverpool's recruitment drive for next season as he seeks the calibre of players necessary to mount a title challenge.

The 48-year-old revealed that a deal had been completed for one player for next season but only gave a few hints as to identity of the signing.

“We are working on trying to improve the squad for next season,” Benitez added. “We have some movements for next season, so we will continue trying to do the same.

“We have some signings for the next season done. They are senior players for the first team and young players for the first team and reserve team.

“Two of them are really close, young players, and one senior player is done. He talks good English, but is not English.”

I've narrowed the 'senior player' down to a shortlist of 43,678 players.

I think Liam is partially right though, he does look like he's lost the zip he had. And the hunger.
