Maxi Rodriguez on the right for us or playing off the striker would be great. Has experience playing with Torres at Athletico and Mascherano with the Argies.

Still only 27 and is the current captain of Athletico. Averages a goal very three games.

Yes he'd be a decent option, but does he speak English?

How about Kakha Kaladze - could do a job on the LHS?

Isn't that the guy Rafa suppose to sign during Jan transfer window?

Yes MB, i think there was interest, but Rafa went for Heinze instead. Never was that impressed with Kaladze TBH

Maxi, Magnin, Zanetti and Degen are all very good players off that list

Zanetti is unlikely, but would be an excellent acquisition.

We should snap up Kasper Schmeichel to cover Reina.

Nwanko Kanu wouldn't be bad either.

Maxi Rodriguez is a bosman next season? What the hell are they doing at Atletico? Or is he just disinterested in returning to the club?

Also, I think Zanetti would be a class signing for a couple seasons to cover the left side of the defensive duties while tutoring Insua. The problem would be the price involved in bringing him to Anfield when he'd have such little time to make the kind of defensive impact needed at that specific position. Class player, class person, would be a class signing at the right price.

Sebastian Eguren.

Extract from Wiki

Eguren arrived at Hammarby from Norwegian club Rosenborg B.K., on loan during
the later part of the 2006 season. On December 5, 2006, Hammarby announced that
Eguren had signed a three-year-contract to 2009 with the club. In Hammarby, he
became very quickly one of the most popular players because of his fighting
spirit.

Eguren tested positive for cocaine after a match in the Copa Libertadores, on
February 12, 2004, being suspended from football for six months. He blamed the
coca tea
which is widely drunk in the Andean countries (as a medicine which
alleviates the effects of altitude), and he got the shortest suspension for this
kind of cases
(this specific match was played at 2,800 meters above sea level,
in Quito).

On February 8, 2006, it was revealed in a shocking newsrelease, that a
transfer of two Uruguayans (Eguren and Alejandro Lago) to SK Brann was
cancelled, due to "psychological reasons."

On January 30, 2008, Eguren was loaned to Villarreal CF of La Liga [1] until
May 2008. After a period of adjustment, he became Marcos Senna's partner as a
central midfielder.

These are a few of my favourite things.

That's what I was thinking. I can't imagine Maxi Rodriguez, Kasper Shmeichel, Hernan Crespo, and a number of others would be on that list.

I don't read particularly well when there's a lot of text on the page and large sections of quotes. Now I see what you wrote.
