GERRARD MORE DEFENSIVE

The manager of Liverpool, Brendan Rodgers, has said that Steven Gerrard might be used in a defensive role in the further matches as well.

Gerrard who is the skipper of the Reds generally plays in an attacking role, but, in the last match against Stoke City, he had made appearance as a defensive midfielder and had done well in that position. That prompted Rodgers to say that the veteran player might be seen playing back in the near future again.

Liverpool won that match against Stoke by a decent margin of 5-3 and moved up to no. 4 in the points table.

Talking to the reporters in the press conference at the end of that match, Rodgers said, “Steven is one of the versatile players in our squad. He can play almost everywhere and you feel great as a manager when you have got somebody like him. He brings a lot of variety to the team.”

“I will consider playing him back in the next games as well. He plays in a defensive role for England at times and does well.  So, there is no reason why he can’t do that for us.”

“We both have had a conversation regarding it. We were just waiting for the right time. Today, we tried him in the deep and he didn’t play badly. Apart from that, he led the side fantastically well too.”

Liverpool is one of the strongest contenders to secure a Champions League spot this season. They have maintained their position in top 4 in the Premier league table since the start of the season. But, there is about half of the season still left and they will have to continue their form if they want to be in top 4 at the end of the season as well.
