The Reds had not been linked with a move for Edouard until recent days. North London club Arsenal and Leicester City were the English teams strongly linked with the Celtic player over the past months.

Ex-Australia national team boss Ange Postecoglouwas recently appointed the new Celtic manager and he has talked up the possibility of retaining the services of Liverpool target Edouard beyond this summer.

The target for Postecoglouis to wrestle the Scottish Premiership title from champions and arch rivals Rangers and Edouard could be crucial for him and Celtic in that quest to dethrone the reigning champions. Celtic won the league title for nine straight seasons before Rangers boss Steven Gerrard masterminded the league title win for Rangers last season without a single loss.

Postecoglou has already started serious work on his playing squad for the new season. Leigh Griffiths has been given a new contract by the new manager, while the club has also completed a deal for central defender OsazeUrhoghide. Apart from reclaiming the league title from Rangers, Celtic would also be eyeing a place in the Champions League group stage with their qualifiers set to start later this month.

Liverpool could take advantage of Leicester City’s decision to sign Zambian international PatsonDaka ahead of Odsonne Edouard by signing the French u-21 international with manager JurgenKloppkeen to bolster his attacking options ahead of the new season. Klopp has the quartet of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, Diogo Jota and Sadio Mane but he’s keen to add one more attacker this summer.
