LIVERPOOL SEEKING COUTINHO REPLACEMENT

Liverpool FC are seeking to replace Philippe Coutinho who moved to Barcelona in a record breaking fee. The Brazilian forward is now the most expensive signing at the Nou Camp, eclipsing that of Ousmane Dembele who joined from Borussia Dortmund for around €145 million.

The deal for Coutinho is expected to reach €160 million plus add-ons. Liverpool are expected to utilize the huge funds properly in boosting the squad. When Tottenham received the huge funds from the sale of Gareth Bale, they spent the money wisely, bringing in several players that have raised the profile of the team. Liverpool are expected to tow this path as well in getting the right blend of players that would help the club to the next level despite the loss of the top rated star.

Links to Thomas Lemar have risen since the confirmation of Coutinho’s exit. The Monaco star refused a deal to Arsenal last summer and an improved deal has not passed. The France international can play in the wings, as a midfielder and in forward capacity.

Coach Jurgen Klopp can utilize Lemar in different scenarios. With Naby Keita set to join the squad, and Emre Can set to renew his deal, despite earlier hints of exit, Lemar would be a big boost for the Reds.

There is still the Riyad Mahrez connection to Anfield though the Algerian might be more willing to leave the King Power Stadium during the summer as against now. Liverpool are still in the FA Cup and Champions League race aside chasing a top four finish in the league.

Klopp would want immediate reinforcement with options in the summer; Hence the links to Kevin Strootman of AS Roma. Talks are reportedly ongoing between both parties for a winter window move to boast the midfield.
